In this youtube video, we learn about OCD in children and how it affects their lives. In the video, it talks about the difference of obsession and compulsive and the different thoughts they have with each one. An example used in this clip for obsession is "scary or gross thoughts". In the clip, they talk about how a child can be obsessed with the thought of having a disease and they start to wash their hands for hours and hours of the day (compulsion). Children with OCD my experience issues in schools/grades, friendships, personal hygiene, and bedtime.
OCD is a very serious and sadding condition that many suffer through on a daily basis. It effects 4% of the worlds population and there is unfortunately not a complete cure for this mental disorder. However, as we have learned there are a lot of ways to help cope with this condition so hopefully children and even adults can learn to focus on positive thoughts.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I like how you added a picture to show the different stages someone may go through. Because OCD causes anxiety in children with unwanted thoughts/feelings, eventually it becomes an obsession. To help suppress this, these obsessions become compulsions, like you mentioned a child may think they have a disease, so they wash their hands for hours. It is truly heartbreaking that there is no real cure.
